Calcium and Toddlers - all you need to know

Toddlers are growing and as such need a high amount of calcium in their diet to avoid condition such as Rickets and bone fractures.

Calcium is required for vascular contraction and vasodilation, muscle function and hormonal balance. 99% of calcium however is found in the bones and teeth, supporting structure and function as bones undergo continues remodelling, and toddlers even more so as they grow.

Toddlers 1-3 years of age RDA is 700mg

those 4-8 years of age RDA 1,000mg

Food sources outside of dairy products include. These do not include food that have been fortified with calcium as some breads and cereal have.

Tofu 1/2 cup 253mg

Almonds whole 1 cup 377mg

Kale fresh 1 cup 95mg

Broc raw 1/2 cup 21mg

Almond milk or other alternative milk unless fortified as many would be do not provide a good source of Calcium.

So it is very important that toddler and children who are sensitive to dairy or have allergies provide make sure that the child is getting adequate amounts of Calcium.

Most calcium supplement use calcium carbonate which is inexperience but also very difficult to digest and absorb. It also seem to create a lot more side effect with digestion issues.

Little munchkins has chosen to use Calcium Phosphate, which is a mineral that contains Hydroxyapatite. Hydroxyapatite is the primary mineral that your body uses to build teeth and bones. Some research shows that this form of calcium has a better absorbency and prevention of osteoporosis and it is naturally occurring.

Little Munchkins products contain 350mg in each 10g dose combined together with other vitamins and mineral for absorbency.
